The Wall Center for Plastic Surgery
Pregnancy, age, and weight fluctuations can result in a bulging stomach. Fortunately, abdominoplasty can remove excess skin and fat as well as tighten stomach muscle. Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, is an excellent way to make the stomach flat and the muscles tight once again. Women who suffer from excess weight also can benefit from the procedure as a way to trim off extra fat.
Depending on your needs, you will either have a full or mini tumy tuck. A mini tummy tuck removes less than three inches of fat and skin from the stomach, while a full abdominoplasty removes a larger amount of skin and fat tissue below the belly button and a new belly button is formed. A mini tummy tuck requires a much smaller incision than a full abdominoplasty, where the incision spans across the stomach. In the full abdominoplasty, the muscle wall is tightened, the layer of fat beneath the surface is thinned out and the skin is tightened and sutured into place.
